Founded
in 1914 by Nellie Cornish, Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts is the
only private, accredited college in the region offering baccalaureate
degrees in visual and performing arts. Cornish inspires the highest
standards of artistic and academic excellence with a Bachelor of Fine
Arts in art, dance, design, theater and performance production and a
Bachelor of Music. Students at Cornish are engaged in a dialogue of
learning that is diverse in philosophy, filled with passion and
professionalism, and focused on the expression of the individual. A
rigorous education takes place in an atmosphere that encourages
experimentation even as it provides students with the fundamental
technical skills that form the base from which work of excellence can
emerge. Cornish College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of
the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and the National
Association of Schools of Art and Design.
Located
in downtown Seattle, Cornish College of the Arts is a focal point in the
community for artists, educators and others with a passion for the arts.
Our students, faculty, and alumni are professional artists who make art
in and for our community – visual artists, set and lighting designers,
dancers, musicians, composers, actors, and directors. Many have
established careers of national and international renown, serving with
distinction in Seattle’s professional arts organizations, nonprofit
cultural institutions, community service agencies, and schools and
colleges.
In
September 2003, Cornish College of the Arts opened the doors to its new
downtown campus, located in Seattle’s Denny Triangle neighborhood. The
relocation and expansion marks a first major step towards establishing
an expansive, consolidated campus. The College financed the purchase
and renovation of its new space through an Authority financing in the
amount of $20,785,000. This variable rate transaction was backed with a
letter of credit by Bank of America. The interest rate is reset weekly
and fluctuates with market conditions. To reduce interest rate risk,
the College also entered into an interest rate exchange agreement to fix
the cost of a portion of the bonds. |
